1)Have the supreme arogance to believe that their own views couldn't possibly be wrong and
2) the desire to impose their views on whoever they can and destroy or discredit those they can't.
Its fairly common for people to do this in the name of a religion. But there are plenty of athiestic zealots with the same attitude, they just hide behind a different justification.
